Hi Kevin,
Are you sure the name of the tune isn't "Got the Blues, Can't Be
Satisfied"? What's the source of the song? Is it from his original 1928
sessions or from his "rediscovery" period?

Hi Frank,

No it's not what you're referring to. I believe it is a tune he recorded
in his "second career" - in the 60's. I understand Taj Mahal has covered
it as "Satisfied, Tickled Too", although I've not heard it.

It's a wonderful little song ... I've got the guitar happening (very
fun), just wish I could decipher the lyrics from the one recording I
have (done by a duet who may or may not be vocalizing the correct lyrics
in the first place).

The rec I have goes something like:

I'm satisfied, tickled too
I'm old enough to marry you,
I'm satisfied, ....
it's gonna bring you back ....
The verses I don't quite hear start with:

First in the country, then in town .....

and

I drop by britches, to my knees ....

(sounds risque ... maybe there was a deliberate "lack of vowels" in the
recording I have)

Thanks anyway,
Kevin

Here's the "missing Lyrics" for the two verses of Mississippi John
Hurt's tune: "I'm Satisfied". I have been playing this song since I was
still in high school (1963).

First in the country, then in town - I'm a total-load shaker from the
navel on down.

I drop my britches to my knees - I give my total-load to who I please.

And...what is his "total-load", folks? All I can say is: "I wish
somebody'd tell me what diddy-wha-diddy means!"

On a CD I recently purchased, Miss. John Hurt "Satisfied...Live" Hurt
does a tune, live, introduced as Satisfied Blues...I'm Satisfied. The
songlasts 1:54, and the tune is almost like My Creole Belle. I've heard
Taj Mahal's Satisfied, but it's kind of different from Hurt's.
The Hurt live CD is on the Boomerang Records label and was published in
'97. Other tunes on the live album are:
Candy Man, My Creole Belle, Make Me A Pallet..., Shake That Thing,I'm
Satisfied, Salty Dog, Nobody's Business..., The Angels Laid Him Away,
Casey Jones (Talkin' Casey), Baby, What's Wrong With You?, Lonesome
Blues.
The lyrics to I'm Satisfied:
I'm satisfied, tickled too
I'm old enough to marry you
I'm satisfied...
second verse repeats with "you gone come back" at end of third line
Break
First in the country then in town
I'm....(no words, just guitar)
On down, I'm satisfied you gone come back
Break (He must do something silly because the audience laughs)
End of song.
Hope this helps.
