There is a new organization, formed in the memory of the late Archie
Edwards, dedicated to promoting traditional acoustic blues in the DC
area. Archie felt it was his duty to pass on the music he learned from
Mississippi John Hurt and others, and the founders of the Archie Edwards
Blues Heritage Foundation are passing on Archie's music to a younger
generation of blues musicians. They are also trying to keep Archie's old
babershop (the Alpha Tonsorial Parlor, on Bunker Hill Rd, NE) open.
There are open acoustic blues jams at the barbershop every Saturday
afternoon. So bring your guitars, harmonicas, banjos, mandolins,
washboards, bones and voices, and join some of the best acoustic blues
players in DC! The Foundation also has a fledgling website at
http://www.acousticblues.com
