Subject: Question: Ari in Chicago and Leadbelly tabs
Message Number: 112

Thanks for a wonderful forum Ari! I have been interested in old blues recordings for about one year now. They have become a part of my life. They enrich and sooth my days. I appreciate your archives. I read one message from back in '97 in which the author asked you about performing in the Chicago area. Any plans to visit here soon? There are a plethora of folk/blues venues in the area. I know I'm not the only one who would enjoy seeing you play here.
Ari, and everyone else, do you know of any Leadbelly tabs available? I've been hard pressed to find any. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Thanks Ari for having a fun message board like this.

I transcribed 32 Lead Belly songs for TRO/Folkways Music Publishers. The
transcriptions were published in a book entitled, "Lead Belly, no
stranger to the blues".

Because I did the transcriptions by making a musically accurate Standard
midi file, I thought that it would be a natural for the core of a web
site.

In making the site, the publisher and I both agreed that posting the
midi files would not be a good idea, so I made a recording of the midi
files being played and converted those recordings to RealAudio format.

Some of the midi files sound a little cheesy and some sound great. The
idea was to let people see how accurate the transcriptions were and to
allow the student using the book to go to the site and hear just the
musical notes, not Lead Belly's recording.

I also sell the songbook at the web site, and sell my own CD. Thanks for
checking it out. http://www.hlmusic.com
