Subject: Idea: CDs or Performers worth recommending?
Message Number: 102

I've read some of the more recent posts on top 10 cd's and current
performers. I was wondering what CDs or performers those of you out
there have recently come across that you have enjoyed (maybe even
unexpectedly). I'll pitch in my 3 most recent CDs:

Scrapper Blackwell: V3: Document Moses Rascoe: Blues: Flying Fish Dan
Pickett: 1949 Country Blues: Collectibles

OK shoot me, prior to buying the SB on Document, I have nothing by
Scrapper Blackwell (not even material with Leroy Carr). I had been
waiting for Prestige to re-issue his material (did they lose it or
something?), finally gave up and bought this. Wow.

Moses Rascoe was another revelation. Great voice, relaxed guitar. Really
enjoyable to listen to. Is this all that he recorded?

Being a big fan of the Tommy McClennan reissue on BMG (everyone has
gotten that release haven't they), I truly enjoyed the Pickett CD.

I really like the new (semi-new anyway) CD by Chris Whitley. It's called
Dirt Floor. He performed here in Austin recently- I only saw him play
four songs at a record store but he made a big impression on me.

As far as old CD's - one of my personal favorites is Skip James Today!
Special Rider Blues is one of my all-time favorite songs and there are
several other good ones on there as well.
