Message Number: 93

Thought it might be nice to see everyone's musical tastes here and
compile a list of your 10 favourite blues cds.
I'll start off:
Mississippi John Hurt - Complete 1928 Okeh Sessions (Okeh label)
Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings (Columbia label)
Big Bill Broonzy - House Rent Stomp (Blues Encore label)
Blind Blake - Ragtime Guitar's Foremost Fingerpicker (Yazoo label)
Mama Let Me Lay It On You (Yazoo label)
The Roots of Robert Johnson (Yazoo label)
Stefan Grossman - Yazoo Basin Boogie (Shanachie label)
Blind Lemon Jefferson - King of the Country Blues (Yazoo label)
Rev Gary Davis - The Complete Early Recordings (Yazoo label)
Rev Gary Davis and Pink Anderson - Gospel, Blues and Street Songs
(Riverside label)
What are your favourites/recommended listening suggestions?
All the best,
Gerry

This list can vary infinitely, but these are my favorites these days:
1. Charley Patton, Volume 2 (Document)
2. Sylvester Weaver, Volume 1 (Document)
3. Memphis Minnie & Kansas Joe McCoy, Volume 1 (Document)
4. Blind Boy Fuller, Volume 4 (Document)
5. Robert Wilkins, Allen Shaw & Tom Dickson (Document)
6. Blind Lemon Jefferson, Volume 3 (Document)
7. The Songster Tradition (esp. Papa Harvey Hull & Long Cleve Reed)
(Document)
8. Ramblin' Thomas and the Dallas Blues Singers (Document)
9. Blind Blake, Ragtime Guitar's Foremost Fingerpicker (Yazoo)
10. Old Time Mountain Guitar (Jess Johnson! O, my!) (County)
BTW, that Gary Davis/Pink Anderson CD is really a gem! Great choice!
Frank
