Well what a wonderful day, I came home this PM and there was my copy of
Fast & Funky in the mail (finally). I put it on & it was devastating.
Fantastic playing, but that voice. If his voice has gotten better with
age, I can't even imagine what he sounds like today. Now I'll make it a
point to see him this fall in DC (if not sooner).

Fast n' Funky sure is a great record, ain't it? I love all of the songs
on it but my favorite is the story-song "My Game Blues." It starts out
with a little riff that is soooo slick as he tells of getting questioned
by the local police...and it just gets better from then on...

"I was standing on the corner, a-telling some woman my game, when the
police asked me, "Tell me what's your name?"

"Say my name is Johnson, and it's printed in my tailor-made shirt...but
I'm a women's lover and ain't never have to work." Just a beautifully
crafted and performed song.

On another note...I finally put together enough money yesterday to buy
the 2 cd set "The Essential Sonny Boy Williamson." Man is Rice Miller a
piece of work...just an incredible talent that words CANNOT describe.
How about "Somebody Help Me" and "Fattening Frogs for Snakes," and all
the rest of them!

My friend has this set and I had first heard it sitting in the shadows
in front of our campfire two years ago in Vermont. After you first hear
it the songs live with you for months.

Also, my LJ site was shut down for two weeks during some sort of a test
by my ISP, but it's back up again and I'm making some improvements to
it, including a blues links page. If anybody's got a blues link I'd be
happy to add it in.

Take care everybody, John
