Subject: Question: Chord Guides for Alternate Tunings?
Message Number: 165

Can anyone suggest a place to go to find chord fingerings for alternate
tunings?

I've recently begun playing slide in open G tuning and was looking for a
few short-cuts to finding chord fingerings. I'm not looking for one of
those encyclopedias, but someting basic with chords in some of the more
popular alternate tunings. Any suggestions?

Woody Mann has authored a pretty good, concise, guide to alternative
tunings titled something like "The Gig Bag Guide to Alternate Tunings".
I picked up a copy at a Borders store. I think it is readily available.
(You might be able to get info about it at www.woodymann.com). Good luck

Steve B or anyone Else Who Knows-

In the Woody Mann book, can you tell me if he gives chord
fingerings/charts within the alternate tunings. For instance, in open G,
does he show you how a minor, minor 7th, seventh and ninth chord is
formed?

I have a guide that tells me some pretty cool alternate tunings. What I
need is a cheat-sheet for commenly used chords within the more popular
alternate tunings.

Thanks

Woody covers the basic alternate tunings and gives fingerings for basic
chords (7ths, minor, minor 7ths, etc.) not too many exotic chords, but
it is a small (fits in a guitar case) handy reference. Mark Hanson has
done more extensive guides on alternate tunings, with more exotic
tunings and more exotic chords within the tunings, but I generally fnd
the Woody Mann book more practical/useful
